The days of playing wide receiver for the New York Giants are over, but retired Amani Toomer is looking for more. The former NFL star seeks approval for a medical cannabis dispensary in Fort Lee, New Jersey.

Amani’s motivation for the facility in Fort Lee is the increasing amount of deaths from opioid overdoses in America. He hopes to bring an alternative solution to those in New Jersey and to reduce the number of opioid overdoses. The current estimate for deaths due to opioids is 72,000 per year according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

New Jersey’s Health Department will announce their selected finalists for alternative treatment centers by the month of November.
