The UK government has approved medicinal cannabis and has made it available for prescription. Medical cannabis prescriptions, according to the Home Office, will be made available as soon as the fall of 2018.
This change to the legality of medical cannabis was made after a petition to make medicinal cannabis legal and available for prescriptions gained traction and received over 240,000 signatures. Karen Gray, the creator of the petition, has a 5 year old son that suffers from a rare epileptic disease called Doose Syndrome (Myoclonic Astatic Epilepsy). Individuals with this disease can experience hundreds of seizures a day. Karen’s son experiences 4 different types of seizures up to 600 times a day.
The thousands of people that signed Karen’s petition succeeded to make medical cannabis legally available and succeeded to make her son the first Scotland resident to get a medical cannabis license.
