11 Governors Urge Further Cannabis Legalization
Governors across 10 states and one territory of the U.S. have an agenda to legalize cannabis or to further assist the legal cannabis industry in their state. The action taken by each governor is one to push lawmakers into making cannabis legalization or cannabis industry assistance their goal for 2020 and achieving the 2020 agenda through a group effort.
One example of current action taking place by a governor to help the already established legal cannabis market comes from the already legal adult-use recreational cannabis state of Colorado and its Governor Jared Polis. Gov. Polis and his administration recently put out what is considered to be a “roadmap” to increase the number of cannabis banks that provide banking services to cannabis businesses.
The Colorado governor also went on to announce a new energy efficiency plan and partnership between beer and cannabis companies. The energy efficiency plan and partnership between brewers and cannabis cultivators involves capturing carbon released in the brewing process to use later on growing cannabis plants. Gov. Polis announced last month in a statement made during his State of the State address that he wants to ensure that the state of Colorado is number one in the U.S. for industrial hemp.
Other locations with governors who want to legalize cannabis or further assist the industry includes Connecticut, Illinois, New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Illinois is another state on the list, like Colorado, who already has a legal cannabis system for adult-use cannabis sales. The state’s Gov. J.B Pritzker recently gave his State of the State address and outlined a new state policy that would provide a chance for the state to collect tax revenue on out-of-state residents.
